The Coakley family have been keeping poultry at Neopardy farm in Aylesbeare since 1965. The farm is now run by brother and sister partnership Richard and Jennifer who supply the Real Food store with free range eggs. Between the two of them, they run the entire operation, from caring for the hens, maintaining the land, collecting the eggs, to sorting, packing, and delivering. They keep 2 or 3 flocks, of approximately 300 hens at any one time, and each flock has access to ¼ acre of land to explore and roam. Their land is rich with bushes, nettles and grass, which they love! The feed is bought from Crediton milling, and is a mix of wheat, sunflower seeds, split peas and a small amount of soya (free from GMOs). Crediton milling produces “clean mill”, meaning they don’t use any growth promoters, antibiotics or medication. They also source as much wheat as possible from within Devon.
